Creating amazing content for your website takes time and dedication. An in-depth understanding of your audience, their goals and a strong concept for your piece are all vital in creating content that will be read, enjoyed and shared.

Being clear on what you want to achieve with your content is also an important part of the content creation process.

Here are our top tips on creating amazing content.

1.Identify your audience

Step one to creating outstanding content is to understand who will be reading it. This is where your audience research comes in.

By diving your audience into segments you can take a closer look at how they relate to your brand. These segment categories could include your; customers i.e. those who purchase from you; the sharers i.e. those who share your content; the bloggers i.e. those with influence in your industry.

By separating your target audience into different categories you’ll be able to target specific content types to certain groups to achieve maximum impact.

Once you’ve defined your audience segments you can drill down further into their like, dislikes and interest with audience profiling. Using tools such as Facebook Insights, Pinterest Analytics, and LinkedIn Groups will allow you to gain these valuable insights, allowing you to develop winning content ideas that they will want to read.

2.Seeding & Outreach

After identifying your target audience segments you can begin interacting with relevant people. Reaching out to your audience allows you to build interest and awareness amongst your audience. By becoming an active member of relevant communities through blogs, forums, social networks and sites such as Reddit and Quora, you will establish your presence in the community and increase your chances of your content being picked up.

Another way to reach out to your audience is to ask them what type of content they want to see. By confirming the type of content that key influencers are interested in you will get a strong indication of the topics and formats that you should be writing about.

3. Ideation

The next step is slightly trickier – developing your ideas for amazing content.

It can be difficult to generate new ideas for content, but a great place to start is with pieces that have worked in the past, or are popular in your industry.

If you’re still struggling for inspiration, another great way to produce good ideas is to find a problem to solve. Identify issues or commonly asked questions in your industry and develop content that solves these problems.

4. Validate your ideas

Once you have your idea, consider the following questions to ensure that you’re aligned with the overall goals of your content:

  • Does this idea fulfil the audience’s needs?
  • Will the audience be interested in this type of content?
  • Is this content easily shareable?
  • Will it help the brand achieve their goals?
  • Are the ideas ‘on brand’, do they fit with the brand’s values?

If you’re able to answer “yes” to most of the questions above, you’re ready to move on to the next step.

5. Creation

When it comes to creating amazing content, you first need to decide which format will work best with your idea.

Here are some suggestions for the type of content you can create:

  • Written Content
  • This type of content includes, but is not limited to:
  • Blog posts
  • Guest features
  • Interviews
  • Surveys/Quizzes
  • Newsletters
  • FAQs
  • Whitepapers

Equally, utilising visual or interactive content mediums is a great way to further enhance your content.

  1. Proofing your work

The final step before sharing your content with your audience is to proof read your work. An external source, whether this is a colleague or a paid service, should check your work for any spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, and offer constructive comments on how to maximise the readability of your content, ensuring the best possible product is delivered to your audience.

Now that your content is finished you’re ready to publish with your audience. Don’t forget to also seed the content via social media, and continue to engage with the influencers and communities you’ve connected with.
